The PS3: New Sony Playstation 3 Slim Console (500 GB) is a good purchase for if you need a new Playstation or have never owned one.

The super slim ps3 is very quiet and light compared to the fat and slim. The sliding tray is far better in my opinion as easier to remove discs and quicker. I think the image is slightly sharper and clearer but it does heat up a bit more.

This is the latest incarnation of the PS3 console. If you already own a working one then I would not consider this an upgrade. If like me your old one breaks down and you would like to continue to use your existing games collection then I would choose this one over any of the others. Its 500GB drive is more than enough for my usage and I have a large cabinet so the top loader is not an issue for me. I give it 4 stars. I would have given it 5 stars if the RRP was lower considering that if feels cheap compared to the early PS3 models. Pros:- Large capacity hard disk. Small footprint. Very quiet especially when the Blu-ray drive is not being hammered. Well vented and runs cool compared to early PS3 models. Simpler Blu-ray load mechanism (PSone) so should be easier to repair. Cons:- Feels and looks cheap. No front loader so need space above it required to hand load discs. No HDMI lead is included. RRP is still quite high cosidering the most likely savings of cost and warranty returns and with this new design.

This Sony Playstation 3 Slim Consoles is a present for our children, so late one night mummy and daddy got it all out, set up and going to 'make sure it all works' - it's great fun! The product was just as we expected it to be!

The Playstation 3 Slim Console (500GB) made a perfect replacement to my old 60GB PS3 which suffered from the yellow light of death. This is a much quieter and smaller playstation. The sliding disc tray might not be as good as the other models but who cares for the great deal you get with 500gb of free space.

Great product at a great price & would have got 5 stars as my verdict is still out on the slide loading cover but hey that's only my opinion & it might grow on me.

Bought the new slimline 500 gb version to replace my old PS3, which finally succumbed to the yellow light of death. Couldn't be more pleased with it. It is very stylish and so small it can go anywhere if you have limited space. The extra disc space is great for all my photos and videos, and the blu ray player is as good as any stand alone more expensive player.
