This is a wonderful film ... if also extremely difficult to see. Being based on a true story, it is hard to argue against it as an eyewitness account of the treatment of black slaves at the hands of their corrupt white owners. McQueen pulls no punches and the result is a very brutal look at the harsh realities of what happens when white supremacists feel that they can do what they want cos no-one of any consequence is watching or will ever hold them to account. the attitude of the whites towards the blacks is, on the whole, disgusting. This is an important story that needs to be told over and over again. A MUST!

Excellent film. Brilliant acting and extremely moving.
