I have always loved this film I have bought it three times over the years in different versions but the steelbook version is the best of the lot the restoration of the film is really well done and the extras package is really good. I would have loved to have seen at least one black and white episode from the Buster Crabbe film series of the 1940s that has been included on one of the DVD releases of the film ,as a Queen fan it would have been nice as well to include the Bands video for Flash's theme from 1980. I am fan of the early 80s cartoon made by Filaminton but did the content producers really have to include 2 of the worst examples of the cartoon from the shows 2nd season I would have much preferred it if they included some episodes from the shows far superior 1st season or included the feature length Flash Gordon's Greatest adventure of them all . I would have given the release 5 out of 5 because its really good package the reason for the missing star is that there is a fault on one of the disks I can't get either of the photo galleries to work I have tried on 2 different Bluray players and it didn't work on ethier so Buyer beware Ben Brown
Quickly dispatched, good quality, great film made an amazing Christmas present
Flash, a-ah, he's a miracle Flash, a-ah, king of the impossible He's for everyone of us Stand for everyone of us He saved with a mighty hand Every man, every woman Every child - He's a mighty flash Flash, a-ah Flash, a-ah, you saved everyone of us.
This item is a fantastic purchase. The Steel book is wonderful. The picture quality and sound quality on the 4K disc cannot be faulted. There are some online videos complaiing of dialogue coming from rear and surrounds and not just from the front speakers. But that's the film. It's how it was designed. Buy this, you won't be disappointed.
I have only been able to check the blu-ray and extras so far, but the picture quality is a big upgrade over the 2010 disc. As mentioned in another review, there are no deleted scenes as such - just a very brief description and even that is rather vague! No stills, no rehearsal footage etc. The best extra is the section on Nic Roeg's plans for the film. I have mixed feelings on seeing this.. you get a sense of what might have been, and Roeg's film would have been a more mature affair. Flash is fun, certainly, but what if it had credited the audience with more intelligence? The sound mix for this edition is unusual. The dialogue is routed to the front speakers and everything else to the rear (at least that is how it seems on my setup). My receiver was not able to decode the 5.1 properly at first and it took a while to realise the front/rear split is not a mistake. If it gets annoying there is a perfectly good two channel mix to fall back on. I guess these are just minor problems. Overall this edition is worth getting.
The picture quality on this is excellent, really a miracle for such an old film. The expanded colour that 4K brings really shines on this film.
Great steelbook and 4K transfer. The best quality you are likely to see this film in.
very happy great steelbook film is amazing quality best version came very quick
The picture & sound on this restoration are top notch. The styling on the SteelBook cover and design is really smart. The extras...are very brief indeed, they sound impressive listed out but many run for just a couple of minutes. ‘Deleted scenes’ doesn’t actually include any deleted scenes
I have been waiting for a new release of Flash Gordon on 4K and Steelbook for a long time. Having missed the Mondo release, and not willing to pay through the nose for it now, (was not 4K anyway), I am glad I waited for this one. A solid release with good amount of extras, you get a 4K, BluRay, and Extras disc.
