A British TV Classic

Doctor Who made its on-screen debut in 1963, produced by the British-based BBC.

William Hartnell was the first to take up the mantle as the famous ‘Doctor’, but the role has subsequently been passed down to a multitude of actors thanks to the narrative concept of ‘regeneration’.

As a member of the Time Lords from the planet Gallifrey, the Doctor is gifted with the biological ability to rejuvenate his or herself when near to death. Over the years, this has allowed a variety of different actors to take on the role.

Such actors include Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann, Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi, and Jodie Whittaker.

Alongside many human companions, the Doctor travels throughout time and space combating all manner of threats, both terrestrial and extra-terrestrial. Many of these threats have become classic villains in the world of pop culture, including the Daleks, Cybermen, Weeping Angels, and more.
