Russell Crowe Joins Spider-Man Spin-Off Film Kraven The Hunter

Welcome to the Spider-Verse, Russell Crowe.

The Oscar-winning Gladiator star has signed on to join Sony’s upcoming Kraven The Hunter movie in an undisclosed role, joining their cinematic universe.

He will join lead actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who has signed a multi-picture deal to play one of Spidey’s most famous villains.

Marvel Comics

While not much is known about Crowe’s role, The Hollywood Reporter article states that “many of the lead characters are said to be Kraven’s family members”.

In the comics, both of Kraven’s parents died at a young age, while his other most notable family member is half-brother Dmitri Smerdyakov, a.k.a. The Chameleon – a role Crowe is likely too old to be cast in.

Details are being kept under wraps, but we do know that the film is now scheduled for release on January 13th 2023, and will be directed by J.C. Chandor (Triple Frontier).

The screenplay is being written by Art Marcum, Matt Holloway (Iron Man), and Richard Wenk (The Equalizer).

Kraven The Hunter is the latest addition to Sony’s live action Spider-Man universe, which already features Venom, will soon introduce Morbius, and has recently announced a Madame Web film starring Dakota Johnson.

Crowe will next be seen in another superhero movie, as he’ll appear in this summer’s Thor: Love And Thunder.

Kraven will make it a hat-trick of superhero cinematic universes for the actor, as he appeared in the DCEU’s Man Of Steel in 2013.

Kraven The Hunter is due for release on 13th January 2023.
