Captain America: New World Order – Everything We Know

The Falcon has become the Captain.

Following last year’s series The Falcon And The Winter Soldier, many were wondering when we’d next see Anthony Mackie’s hero on-screen, with the season finale seemingly setting up a second outing.

We now know we may be waiting a while for his return, as Mackie is set to headline a fourth Captain America film as part of Marvel’s forthcoming Phase Five in 2024.

With the movie not premiering for another couple of years, there are only a few clues for what to expect. Here’s our quick guide to everything we know so far.

Cast

Marvel Studios

In summer 2021, a few months after The Falcon And The Winter Soldier concluded, it was revealed by Deadline that Mackie would be stepping into Chris Evans’ shoes as the lead in a new Captain America film.

With that series ending with Sam Wilson finally accepting the mantle as Captain America, it’s safe to assume this movie will broadly cover his early trials and tribulations of taking on that role.

At D23 in September 2022, several other cast members were confirmed. Most notably, this included Tim Blake Nelson, reprising his role as The Leader from 2008’s The Incredible Hulk.

Other returning characters were Carl Lumbly as original super soldier Isaiah Bradley and Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, while MCU newcomer Shira Haas was confirmed to join the franchise as Israeli hero Sabra. On the other side of the camera, Julius Onah (who made the exciting 2019 thriller Luce, and 2018’s the less-said-about-it-the-better Cloverfield Paradox) is on directorial duties.

Story

So far, we have no idea. It will likely be Mackie’s first appearance in the role since the Disney+ series ended, meaning his character is still coming to terms with being Captain America.

On that we have a vague quote from producer Nate Moore who said in an interview with Comicbook, that the character will be more of an “underdog” this time around, comparing him to Rocky Balboa.

We also know that the film will be one of the final entries in the MCU’s Phase Five, the penultimate adventure before Thunderbolts closes it out and Fantastic Four starts a new one.

Similarly, we’re in the dark about those movies, but they could tie together leading the characters down the road towards 2025’s duo of Avengers outings.
