AT LAST !

Originally ordered in December, at last its finally arrived after 5 months wait. This one was very well packaged ( unlike my LOTR that arrived in a flimsy box with 2 dents ) Lovely set , thanks zavvi.

An unexpected purchase

LOTR is clearly the better trilogy, and I remember thinking The Hobbit films were OK at the cinema....but decided to take the plunge anyway, and after seeing the extended editions in 4K I've grown to really like this collection of films! Steelbooks are awesome as well, I'll be wall mounting instead of keeping in the foam inserts

Almost Definitive - A Hobbit's Tale

There are a lot of positives for this collector's edition 4k remaster. The steelbooks are incredibly beautiful and the film looks crisp in 4k. Couple with the incredible audio remaster work, makes viewing these films better than they've ever been. However, there are a couple of small issues that stop this being the definitive way to watch these films. The remaster work has been largely done by AI and in rare but sometimes just about noticeable cases, the AI scrubbing has actually removed small elements from the film. You'll barely notice for the most part but every now and again you may wonder why that little background character is missing half of their walking stick! This edition has also done away with the bonus content found on the extended editions. I understand not remastering behind the scenes footage, but to remove it entirely seems unnecessary. Therefore these versions of the film, while excellent and bringing improvements in their own right, also come with caveats. Buy this version too but don't go trading in your old extended editions just yet...

Perfection👌

I live in Finland and the product came in perfect condition. I just started collecting steelbook blurays and this was the perfect start for it. I love the artwork in these steelbook cases. Keep up the amazing work.

Collectors item

Great item for collectors of steel books and that of the Hobbit and the lord of the rings holds both cinematic and extended versions on a single Disc each.

Look great in 4K, sound amazing in Dolby Atmos

Steelbooks look amazing and arrived without any damage or dents. These films looked great in 4K HDR on an LG C9 OLED, there is noticeable DNR and sharpening in many scenes, especially in 'An Unexpected Journey', but it doesn't detract from much the experience. Dolby Atmos sounded great with the SL8YG soundbar I have, so if you have a higher end soundbar or true surround sound setup, I'm sure you'd enjoy it even more.
