An unforgettable masterpiece, the original Frankenstein stars Boris Karloff as the screen's most tragic and iconic monster in what many consider to be the greatest horror film ever made. Tampering with life and death, Henry Frankenstein (Colin Clive) pieces together salvaged body parts to bring a human monster to life. The mad scientist's dreams are shattered by his creation's violent rage as the monster awakens to a world in which he is unwelcome. Featuring groundbreaking makeup by Jack Pierce, director James Whale's adaptation of Mary Shelley's masterpiece novel blends themes of horror, isolation and compassion, and remains one of the most shocking movies of all time.

Frankenstein 4k
I've seen this movie countless times. The first time was in 1977 on bbc2, Saturday night horror double bill. Since then I've owned it on VHS, DVD, and blu ray. But this 4k edition blows them all out of the water. Amazing picture quality. Looks like it could have been filmed yesterday. Hats off to Universal for the restoration work.

The Iconic Image of the Monster
Like the 1931 Dracula was to the public consciousness of vampires, this is the film that formed the public's view of what Frankenstein's monster. Even for those that have never seen it, they would, if asked to draw "Frankenstein", they would draw the flat top hair and bolts on the neck. As far as the sharpness of the image is concerned, it's not a huge upgrade from the restored Blu-Ray from the legacy collection, as that used the same 4k master, but the HDR makes the image pop more. This is the best that you'll ever seen this, unless you're close to 100 years old, and saw it as a child in 1931.
