From acclaimed filmmakers Lana and Andy Wachowski, creators of The Matrix Trilogy, and Tom Tykwer, director of Run Lola Run, the powerful and inspiring sci-fi epic Cloud Atlas explores how the actions and consequences of individual lives impact one another throughout the past, the present and the future. Action, mystery and romance weave dramatically through the story as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero, and a single act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution in the distant future.
Special Features:
- A Film Like No Other - Three directors. Six stories across 800 years. Actors jumping through time, space and personality. How did three visionaries of cinema divvy up the filmmaking to create a coherent whole and how did this massive endeavour come to be?
- Everything is Connected - Six interweaving tales that somehow relate into a larger story about life, love and history. Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, the Wachowskis and Tykwer and the rest of the film’s cast delve into the film’s stories, genres, and bonds. It’s all about the connections.
- The Impossible Adaptation - When ‘Cloud Atlas’ was released in 2004, Hollywood told auth or David Mitchell it could not be adapted to the screen. Nearly a decade later, the Wachowskis and Tykwer proved Hollywood wrong.
- The Essence of Acting - Why did Tom Hanks and each of the Film’s 12 principal actors jump at the opportunity to play multiple roles in the film, and what did they get out of the ultimate acting exercise?
- Spaceships, Slaves & Sextets - Unlock the mysteries of 'Cloud Atlas' and delve into the finer themes of the tale: the will to power, the limitations of genre and the evolution toward the good over time and examine the film’s structure and subtext, seen through the eyes of the cast, filmmakers, author and producers
- The Bold Science Fiction of Cloud Atlas - Explore Cloud Atlas’ cutting-edge future with tales of cloning, consumer-speak and extra-planetary exploration.
- Eternal Recurrence: Love, Life, and Longing in Cloud Atlas - Love, longing and romance carry across 600 years in the film in the most epic love story ever.

My brain hurts...
This is a film that simply tries too hard. I really gave it every chance to come together at the end in a way that satisfied the confusing ride, but it didn't. What you basically have is a number of different stories (each interesting in their own way) acted out by more or less the same people, and at the end of it all we're supposed to have worked out the connection between them. However, the channel-hopping nature of the story telling means that you never get to settle into any one of them, and therefore it's hard to care about the characters in any of the timeframes. It's less than the sum of its parts as a result.
