Doctor Who -The Collection - Season 24

Another excellent addition to the collection. The packaging continues the excellent artwork and attention to detail, and the extras keep getting better and better. In this case, with the discovery of extra studio footage, you get two versions of each story; the televised and the extended. A must buy.

Underrated Series - Excellent presentation

Season 24 often comes in for a bit of a drubbing from fans for its more comedic tone but is at its best here. Excellent packaging and a plethora of special features make this a must for any serious Doctor Who collection.

Fantastic!

Another wonderful box set of classic doctor who with gloriously produced extras documenting every aspect of production.

A fascinating mixed bag, beautifully presented

Nobody would attempt to airbrush the fact that this, one of the most transitional seasons in Doctor Who's history, is a very flawed set of stories - but there's a huge amount to enjoy here, and this collection is packed with an incredible range of special features that tell the fascinating story behind a year that marked a bold new direction for Doctor Who (with many greater things to come). Of the stories, Paradise Towers and Delta and the Bannermen are the strongest (the latter a rather unexpected gem, unless you're determined to take it too seriously), Dragonfire doesn't quite deliver on the ambition of its ideas but is carried through by great model work and a score to die for, and - well, if you can't find something to enjoy in Time and the Rani then you're probably better off ordering some Scandi Noir to enjoy of an evening. All four stories see an instantly magnetic new Doctor acting opposite some incredible guest casts (not to mention an underrated Bonnie Langford), and are presented in extended versions incorporating some of the wealth of cutting room floor material that is also included in its entirety. Perhaps for purists only, for my money the glimpse it offers into the production of late 80s Who is invaluable and fascinating - the raw footage of McCoy's regeneration sequence has genuine dramatic tension. And the extras just go on and on. A new documentary about the season, which hits the high quality we have come to expect from these blurays. Lovely 'Behind the Sofa' features, with the really sweet McCoy/Langford/Aldred chemistry balanced by some enjoyably bitchy banter from two other former Doctors. One of the things that strikes me about all of the new footage is just how good natured the contributors seem to be - there's a sense of humility and self-awareness in their assessment of this period of the programme, but a generosity when they remember the people who made it happen. On top of which there are all kinds of archive bits to enjoy (the Delta and the Bannermen after party is a particular highlight). Highly recommended.

Doctor Who The Collection Season 24

I'm not going to review the great Sylvester McCoy's first season or the amazing bonus content "The Collection" provides needless to say I love it all. What I am going to say is Zavvi provided shipping to the US in a timely manner at a great price. Their packaging is a plastic envelope similar to what other online retailers like Amazon would provide. I do wish they would use a padded envelope but my box set arrived without any damage to the exterior. I am going to continue to use Zavvi for all the upcoming Doctor Who releases & am very happy with this purchase!
