Taut suspense, heart-stopping shocks and mystery are all awaiting in Graduation Day. It's just weeks before high school graduation and members of the track team are being mysteriously and gruesomely murdered, one at a time. When the teams star runner, Laura Ramstead, falls dead at the end of a championship meet, her sister Anne (Patch MacKenzie) comes to town and a series of grisly murders begins. Is Anne responsible? Or is it coach Michaels (Christopher George) who has been fired because of Laura's death? Perhaps it's the campus policeman who is disliked because of his overzealous drug investigations. Or is it Laura's boyfriend, Kevin (E. Danny Murphy), who can't reconcile himself to Laura's death? You won't want to see this one alone!

A Full Price "budget" Title
I admire and am very grateful that 88 Films are bringing these much loved moments from my cinematic childhood back from obscurity, yet these self dubbed "Classics" need a little more respect. It is a joy to see such attention lavished on Graduation Day. Herb Freed's 1981 slasher pic falls for all the expected cliches which are a fan requirement and rightly so, we have the unseen killer, inventive death scenes including death by football in a simply jaw dropping sequence, ample nudity, gore and a memorable final girl. For what was rumoured to be a troubled production the end result sits well with its peers and will delight slasher fans. The remastered print has never looks so good, alas the same cannot be said regarding the extra features which on the whole have been imported from Troma's 2000 DVD release. With only tenuous links to the main feature these SD visuals are as ugly as they are worthless. Graduation Day was a Troma pick up title not a home grown product, with the tone and style of the main feature sitting almost at odds with the bonus features. A possible validation of this being that 88 Films have also included High Rising Production's long gestating "Scream Queens" documentary on the disc. Which despite its failings, manages to entertain and inform for the majority of its stretched running time. Alas those failings includings Troma's Debbie Rochon's handling the presenter duties with heroic indifference and the inclusion of such "will these do" filler Scream Queen legends as Irina Voronina, Jennifer Lim and star of genre classic the Color of Night, Jane March, damage what could have been a solid low budget watch and decent companion to the fine main feature. When held in comparison with far superior Region A Blu-Ray release (which shares the fantastic print as this release coupled with a seemingly equally fantastic array of extras that are actually about the film), 88 Films and the British buyer come up short again even at the heavily discounted price offered here. At the recommended full price this Blu-Ray is almost impossible to recommend, so you should run away from it screaming and hide in the most obvious place.
