Able to live without repercussions in 1930's Chicago, Dillinger and his gang were effectively untouchable, robbing big businesses left, right and centre. As Dillinger's star rose among the working classes, J. Edgar Hoover (played by Billy Crudup) decides it's time to bring him down and assigns his top agent Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale).
The film follows the travails of both men, with Purvis' investigation and Dillinger's thinning friendships and problems adjusting to a changing America eventually coming to a thrilling conclusion.
