Two years earlier, on American soil it was a European team, inspired by captain Jose Maria Olazabal in the memory of his late, great friend and golfing legend Seve Ballesteros, who fought against all odds to pull off the greatest comeback in the competition’s glory laden history now known as ‘the Miracle of Medinah’.
In 2010 in testing conditions at Celtic Manor it was captain Montgomerie who led his side to the most dramatic of victories coming down to Graeme McDowell in a nerveless display of golf in the very last match sealing a one point success for Europe.
