Max Renn (James Woods) is looking for fresh new content for his TV channel when he happens across some illegal S&M-style broadcasts called ‘Videodrome’. Embroiling his girlfriend Nicki (Debbie Harry) in his search for the source, his journey begins to blur the lines between reality and fantasy as he works his way through sadomasochistic games, shady organisations and body transformations stunningly realised by the Oscar-winning makeup effects artist Rick Baker.
Hailed by his contemporaries John Carpenter (“he’s better than all of us combined”) and Martin Scorsese (“no one makes films like he does”) as a genius, Videodrome, was Cronenberg’s most mature work to date and still stands as one of his greatest.

Fabulous classic
Wonderful wonderful would be words enough to describe this intelligent movie from one of the worlds best directors. The movie takes into the depths of the humanmind and then even deeper and darker.

Uncut and excellent
Just a small review saying this release (4 disc) has not only the uncut edition, but also a lot of alternate scenes. This includes many fascinating documentaries and revelations. The hardback booklet is outstanding, offering a cut by cut analysis of the censored edits that have been restored. Who would have thought there was a special TV edition for Canada that had extensive different cuts that altered the story?

Classic Cronenberg
This film gets better and more relevant as time passes. Arrow films gives this film the treatment it deserves with an excellent HD presentation packaged beautifully. As if that wasn't enough the many special features include David Cronenberg's early efforts as a filmmaker. Highly recommended
