The Home Of Anime

Established in 1994 by Gen Fukunaga and his wife, Funimation Global Group is an American-based company (its headquarters located in Texas) that dubs and distributes East Asian media, the most prominent of which is Japanese anime. This has allowed Western audiences, such as those in North America, to enjoy content that would otherwise be unavailable. Notably, their selection of anime franchises comprises the likes of Tokyo Ghoul, Code Geass, Dragon Ball, One Piece, Attack On Titan, Fairy Tail, Black Clover, Fruits Basket, Assassination Classroom, Cowboy Bebop, Yu Yu Hakusho, Dr. Stone, and My Hero Academia — amongst others.

A businessman from Japan, Fukunaga founded Funimation after being advised by his uncle (a former producer at Toei Company) that the animation department of his employer would offer the United States–distribution rights to the Dragon Ball franchise. With the support of a co-worker called Daniel Cocanougher, Fukunaga acquired sufficient investment to begin the venture. The success of Dragon Ball Z, which was aired on Cartoon Network, allowed the company to expand its array of licenses.

In 2005, the Funimation Channel made its debut, allowing audiences to enjoy 24-hour anime content. To ensure the channel’s success, the company invested heavily in new licenses: Revolutionary Girl Utena: The Movie, Record Of Lodoss War, Project A-ko, Urusei Yatsura: Beautiful Dreamer, Grave Of The Fireflies, Buso Renkin, Honey And Clover, Hunter X Hunter, Nana, Ninja Nonsense, Boogiepop Phantom, and more. Today, all this content can be streamed on their website and apps.
