Dirk Bogarde Collection - Screen Icons
Bogarde made more than sixty films, his name always 'above the title'. The first half of his career, when he was based in the UK, can be traced through the key titles comprised by this box-set. He excelled as the sexualised young thug in The Blue Lamp (1950), before further impressing as a murderer on the run with a young hostage in Charles Crichton's Hunted (1952). In The Sleeping Tiger (1954), his first collaboration with Joseph Losey, he brought a characteristic intensity to the role of another young criminal, who has designs on his psychiatrist's wife. In the title role as The Spanish Gardener (1956) he falls foul of a washed-up diplomat by befriending the latter's over-protected young son.
