Amazing, for an anime movie
Most anime fans will agree that movies are always subpar when compared to the original series. I put this down to the fact that they're trying to start and finish a story in the space of an hour and a half, a story in which they like to remind viewers (and introduce new viewers) to the characters and their abilities. This wastes a lot of time. They also like to make new villains and, while there's nothing wrong with that, you have to meet them, too. This usually works out fine in other movies, but the trouble with anime movies - or any movie based on a TV show - is that you're used to watching the show itself, seeing characters and villains established over hours and hours, and you're spoilt by deep stoylines that can be created as they are simply for the sheer number of episodes that anime and the like tend to last. Road to Ninja, however, seems to have avoided this. The heroes are slightly re-established, but not to the degree it has been done in the past, and the villain is a very familiar face. As such, no time is wasted building introductions or even establishing the villain's motive. This movie fits in perfectly without having to have been a part of the anime. It's seamless. Call it the villain's 'test run' of his plan. It's also hilarious and surprisingly heart-wrenching. I don't feel the need to talk about the plot. Just look at the cover of the DVD, that should tell you enough. In short, this is the best of all Naruto/Naruto Shippuden movies, and definitely the best all-round anime movie I've seen. I cannot fault it for a moment.
