The cinematic spin-off from the TV series, Sweeny! sees hard-bitten, womanising Flying Squad officer Jack Regan (John Thaw, Inspector Morse) embroiled in a deadly political plot when an old friend asks him to investigate the death of his girlfriend. Framed on a drunk-drive charge and suspended from the force, with his partner and best mate George Carter (Dennis Waterman, Minder) unable to help, Jack must rely on his wits to evade deadly government hit-men and expose the real villain of the piece.
Sweeny 2 gets off to an exciting start as Regan and Carter investigate a gang of bank robbers, and the suspense of how they are going to nail them is kept up to the very end. But the true compulsive viewing appeal of the film lies in the crisp, salty dialogue written by Troy Kennedy Martin (creator of the TV series Z Cars) and the sardonic humour that Thaw and Waterman bring to the partnership of Regan and Carter. Nothing can shake their loyalty to each other or tempt them into accepting bribes for bending the law., The cinematic spin-off from the TV series, Sweeny! sees hard-bitten, womanising Flying Squad officer Jack Regan (John Thaw, Inspector Morse) embroiled in a deadly political plot when an old friend asks him to investigate the death of his girlfriend. The setting alone is more than your money´s worth...
Wanna see Inspector Morse lose his impeccable facade? Wanna see Old Trick's Dennis Waterman with a haircut that will see you talk an hour with the nearest shrink? The first movie has an over-the-top plot, the next is every bit a nightmare for any of today's senior management with the police. Still, the actors are top-notch and the style might be more successful used instead of today's over-sensitive treatment of offenders. I enjoyed this one highly!
