Terry-Thomas Collection Comic Icons
The following is what I wanted to know but couldn't find in any of the reviews elsewhere - what do the films actually look like? School for Scoundrels is in 1.77:1 anamorphic and looks very good indeed; a clean, sharp print. All the other films are in 1.33:1. Most were made in 1.66:1 (according to the IMDB), but flicking through, they look okay. You probably won't notice any difference until you watch the trailers (in 1.66:1) for three of the films - The Naked Truth, Too Many Crooks and Make Mine Mink. It's a case of have them like this now or not have them at all. Maybe if we wait 20 years, they'll be released in their proper ratio on Blu-ray, but these will do very nicely in the meantime. This set isn't perfect because the films aren't all in their original picture ratios, which is why I've given it 4 stars and not 5, but presented as they are, all but one look very good. This is a bargain set for the amount of material it contains - especially if you add up the prices of the individual releases. And are all these films ever to appear on TV again? It's 6 Terry-Thomas films; what are you waiting for?
