This is the dramatic story of "Operation Michael", the codename for the mighty German spring offensive of 1918. Planned by General Ludendorff, the Kaiserschlacht (or "Emperor's Battle") was Germany's last desperate throw of the dice, a final massive effort in a bid to turn the tide of the Great War. The thunderous artillery bombardment by more than 6000 guns which signalled the start of the offensive, was the largest the war had yet seen. A million German troops were committed to the plan and the fighting which followed was some of the most bitter and bloody of the entire First World War.
This DVD features rare archive footage, expert analysis and period imagery.
