Detective Inspector Jack Regan (Ray Winstone) and his loyal partner George Carter (Ben Drew) are old school crime fighters enforcing the law in a modern underworld. Armed and dangerous, the Flying Squad have their own way of operating, and when an old enemy makes a re-appearance on the London crime scene, Regan will do whatever it takes to get the job done.
Tearing up the streets of London, The Sweeney is a stylish, exhilarating action thriller directed by Nick Love (The Firm), and boasts a terrific British cast including Damien Lewis (Homeland), Hayley Atwell (Captain America: The First Avenger) and Steven Mackintosh (Underworld: The Rise of the Lycans).

Dubious about this one because i was a fan of the original series.I needn't have worried. The format of the original has been kept and Ray Winston Plays Regan with all the toughness that you would expect. Ben Drew also plays Carter well but with a modern aggression that works well with Regan. As a fan of the sweeney i can recommend this film and if you accept that it is a re-work of a classic then you won't be dissapointed
I enjoyed the Sweeney DVD, it had plenty of action but a little far fetched for this age of correctness, but it did supply escapism. The characters were not as portrayed as in the original Sweeney, but John Thaw and Denis Waterman are hard acts to follow.
The Sweeney is a great film and has been brought right up to date. I love Ray Winstone and Ben Drew together. I hope they make another.
