Captain America T-shirts

When it comes to designing new Captain America T-shirts, it’s safe to say that the Zavvi UK team can do this all day. Created with the comic books and live-action films in mind, these exclusive products capture the best of Steve Rogers, including memorable quotes and his various costume changes.

Birth Of A Super Soldier

The character known as Steve Rogers was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, his first appearance being Captain America Comics #1 (1941), which was published by Marvel’s predecessor, Timely Comics. Introduced during the Second World War, he embodied the patriotism of the era and often faced the Axis powers. Consequently, the post-war period saw a decline in sales, with readers gravitating away from stories of this kind. Rogers didn’t return to fulltime publication until 1964, after which point he remained a recurring presence in the Marvel Universe.

In his origins, Rogers is depicted as a physically unassuming young man who is appalled by the actions of the Nazi forces. He enlists in the military, wanting to make a difference; however, the recruiters reject him on account of his fragile body, which wouldn’t be able to withstand the exhaustive requirements of armed conflict. Despite his immediate rejection, Rogers receives the opportunity to fight for his country when his courage is recognised by General Chester Phillips of the U.S. Army, who invites him to participate in Project: Rebirth, wherein he would be enhanced by a newly developed serum. The unlikely candidate, eager to lend his support to the war effort, accepts the offer and becomes a near-flawless depiction of a human being, a hero willing to stand against villains — such as the Red Skull and Baron Zemo — and act as a symbol for the common people.
