An Absolute Screamer

Walt Disney Pictures’ Monsters, Inc. hit cinema screen in 2001, following in the footsteps of the critically acclaimed Toy Story.

The film was directed by Peter Docter (marking his directorial debut) and featured an incredible voice-over cast, including John Goodman (Sully), Billy Crystal (Mike), Steve Buscemi (Randall), James Coburn (Henry J. Waternoose III), Mary Gibbs (Boo), and Jennifer Tilly (Celia Mae).

Based in a fictional world where energy is produced in factories that harness the power of children’s screams, Monsters, Inc. follows the top scarers Sully and Mike as they encounter a young girl, affectionately named ‘Boo’.

Children are seen as toxic hazards to monsters, so Boo’s presence in the factory is considered dangerous. Both Sully and Mike must protect Boo while also uncovering a plot by their rival Randall to forcibly extract screams using a machine.

In 2013, the classic film received a follow-up prequel that was titled ‘Monsters University’. This introduced us to a younger Sully and Mike during their time at university, attempting to become scarers.
