Welcome To Town

Released in 1999, Burton’s Sleepy Hollow is a film that draws inspiration from Washington Irving’s short story The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow (1820). Johnny Depp, Christina Ricci, Miranda Richardson, and Michael Gambon take on starring roles.

Set in 1799, the movie tells the story of a young police detective called Ichabod Crane (Depp), who is sent from New York City to a small town called Sleep Hollow to investigate a series of murders. Crane discover that three of the murders were committed against some of the most notable men in town. The town’s council affirm that the murders are the work a headless hessian horseman. With the help of the young Katrina Van Tassel (Ricci), Crane’s investigation takes him deep into the dark woods where more murders have been occurring.

Popular amongst fans, Sleepy Hollow won the Academy Award for Best Art Direction and has been credited for its dark humour, performances, direction, visual effects, and atmosphere.

Following the release of the film, a new adaptation of the classic tale was released. However, this interpretation was created for TV and ran from 2013 to 2017 on Fox, reaching a total of four seasons before its cancellation.
