only for the fans

As an alien fan I did enjoy this short game with less than an average story line. Did not play the original v1.0 which everyone hated, but the latest patched version is quite okay for the fans of the franchise. I would replay the story mode a second time if i had a co-op friend and using a higher difficulty which is saying a lot for this game. Biggest issue the game has is the matchmaking system which simply does not work, so online play is only possible by friend invites.

This may be not exactly what Aliens fans expected...

I was very excited when I heard about this game and the fact that 20th Century Fox accepted it as the official sequel to James Cameron's Aliens movie. I had big hopes in the game but unfortunately they were crushed as I moved towards the end of the game. First, I got a bit disappointed by the game's graphics: it looks much worse than it did on the preview videos Gearbox released before the game. The second - and maybe biggest - problem that annoyed me was the fact that the AI is quiet buggy... There were numerous times when my CPU-controlled teammates got stuck in walls or just decided not to come with me and sometimes I even had to restart a misson from a specific checkpoint as one of my teammates did not want to come despite the fact that a closed door was waiting for her to go there and open it. But despite all that, later I noticed on myself that actually I started to enjoy the game. There were a lot of situations in which I felt that good old Aliens feeling Cameron managed to create. Then, I finished the game and... I was totally disappointed. It seems that the Aliens franchise has a curse on it: first there was the movie Prometheus which stated that it'll explain a lot about the xenomorphs' origin but - in my opinion - it failed in that as it raised more questions than the answers it provided. And I felt the same with Aliens: Colonial Marines - it raised interesting questions during the storyline and I expected all (or at least some) of them being answered at the end of the game. But that was not the case, so I was shocked when I realized the game is over. So to summarize things: A:CM is a pleasant FPS though technically far from perfect, but the storyline ruins it all for me. The reason why I did not give 2 stars for the game is that somewhere deep in my heart I'm still hoping that the story will be extended by some DLCs and/or patches.

The disappointment of the year

Aliens: Colonial Marines is a mediocre game with many flaws such as terrible animations, bugs everywhere with generic and boring gameplay... Only suitable for fans of the franchise in my opinion.

Mediocre PC Game

I am an avid fan of the series, having watched the movies repeatedly over and over again, however Aliens: Colonial Marines does not offer that much. The game has got a lot of re-playability in it due to the leveling and upgrade system, and also the sound effects are spot on. Visually, it is nothing special due to the old engine. I have played it both co-op and single player - it is fun, and as long as the game is fun I will not bash it. I rarely have encountered any bugs, and they were not game-breaking.

Bad technique but great ambiance

After all that was said about Aliens: Colonial Marines, I was pretty anxious when I installed it, and my first minutes playing it made me say that it is really bad. It's graphically out-dated, with dumb AI. The scripts are everywhere. I was really disappointed. The story doesn't even give a good sequel to the movie. But something made me stay, despite all these mistakes. It is really the same atmosphere as Aliens, the second movie in the Alien saga. There are few colonial marines, many more hostile creatures, powerful weaponry and problems everywhere. So if you're an Aliens fan, I recommend it. If not, this is not a game for you!

mediocre but fun

This is a game I would not recomend anyone to buy, it is full of bugs and glitches and even games from 2005 look better than this one. The single player lacks in everything, a whole lot of the time you will get stuck because of one your team mates will glitch and get stuck somewhere or the objective alien gets pushed through a wall or door. However, the game still allows you to enjoy yourself. The story is good and the bugs do add some extra humour to your game, the difficulty is not something to be excited about since the only parts you will have to do over are the ones where you glitch out. The multi-player is the absolute best part of this game, whether you are alien or marine, sadly the amount of maps are limited to 2 per mode and on top of that the maps are also very small. Models and animation are also very good in the multiplayer. adding the sweetfx mod along with the "dx11" mod will upgrade the graphics to decent and you will get a lot more joy of the game this way. basicly my score is 3 5 for multiplayer 2 for singleplayer campaign 2 for amount of people online 1 for bug fixing
