Ok

Tour De France 2012 is not a bad game for the price, but if I paid any more I would be disappointed. There's no real game play, it's just timing it right to get the result. That said, it's nice to play something different and I love cycling.

Great for fans, not for others

Tour De France 2012 is a great game if you're a cycling fan, otherwise it is just boring. I liked it but it's not for everyone.

TdF 2012

This game is great if you are into cycling and want to try your hand at the TdF routes from 2012. I wouldn't really recommend it if you only have a passing interest in cycling. Essentially a real-time strategy game in which you have to react to break always, you have to manage your team as well as your own energy levels to achieve your teams objectives. Then you have to consider the long term impact of how you tackle a stage over the whole race (when doing a TdF campaign). There is the option of doing individual stages or do the whole race as a campaign. The difficulty level of completing your objectives will be determined by your choice of team and riders. It loses a star for the fact that it bizarrely has the licences for some teams such as Team Sky or Movistar but not other teams like BMC and their riders, though you can change them yourself as its easy to work out who they are.

Nice but not like PC version

Tour De France 2012 doesn't live up to the PC version of this same sport, but it is still a good overall experience.

Tour De France 2012

Good update to the 2011 version. This is a very realistic simulation of the grand Tour De France!

Tour De France 2012

This is a brilliant game, the stages are very realistic and the graphics are fantastic. They carefully make the stages so it is not some sped-up thing but you play enough and you get to play all the important parts of each stage (sprints, start and end etc.). Overall, this is a fantastic game, but to really appreciate it you do need to understand the actual tour fairly well. Over time the makers will also add extra races to it, although none have been confirmed yet.

Tour De France 2012

Tour De France 2012 is an addictive game if you enjoy sports games and have a competitive edge. Those with an interest in cycling following Le Tour this year will also enjoy this game. The graphics and database are not to the level of a FIFA, but this series has not been around as long. If you can get beyond that, the stages are superbly realistic down to the gradients and bends of every stage.

Tour De France 2012

In this game you have every stage of the 2012 Tour de France, and most teams are licensed so you get the full Team Sky kit with Bradley Wiggins, Mark Cavendish, Chris Froome etc. There are a handful of teams not licensed, so RadioShack becomes RadioCash, BMC Racing becomes CAM Racing etc, but unlike the 2011 version of the game you can edit the team names and rider roster. A big change over the 2011 game is that teams now contain the full complement of 9 riders rather than the rather sparse 5 per team you were allocated last year. In fact, you pick your team of 9 from a roster of about 20 riders on each squad, And with the full 22 teams competing, you have 198 riders racing simultaneously, which to my mind is quite an achievement. Graphics are fairly poor with a chuggy frame rate, but considering how many individual riders the console is tracking, I suppose this is forgivable. It certainly looks a lot better than the ill-advised Xbox Live Arcade TdF game from 2009. Each race is broken up into sections, and you only directly control key sections in the stage - otherwise a flat stage could end up with 2 hours of boredom waiting for the sprint at the end. A flat stage lasts about half an hour, and you could easily spend 90 minutes on a mountain stage, although you can save mid-stage when you finish a section. When the race is outside the key sections, you just get a quick track of time gaps etc as the riders progress to the next key section. You directly control just one rider for each section (although you can change riders between sections on the same stage) but you can direct every other rider in your team via team radio, like a team director. The game is really a strategy game, managing the energy levels of your riders throughout the stage to get the best result for the various jerseys. There is also a 2-player vs mode over PSN, but I haven't tried this yet. For a fan of pro cycling, and the TdF in particular, this is a 4 star game. It feels right when you play it, and is an improvement over last year's model. On the other hand, if you don't know your Tourmalet from your Ventoux, and you're expecting Gran Turismo on a bike, you won't like this at all. One for the fans of the sport really, but that's no bad thing sometimes.
