Great space shooter game
I love the art direction of Akai Katana. It brings me back to the classic shoot 'em up titles from the 90's. In this day and age, CAVE is one of the best in this category. For this price, it is well worth adding into your collection.

Glorious
Akai Katana doesn't disappoint. This excellent Xbox 360 port features a completely new mode with a completely different scoring system and several adjustments, making it fresh and enjoyable even for shooter fans that already had a chance to try the original arcade machine. The game includes a multi-language manual that is very well written and explains very clearly how the different game modes work. I'm not an expert of the genre, yet I was able to learn the mechanics easily. The co-op is brilliant as well.

Amazing !
Akai Katana is a very addictive game. It's quite an accessible manic shooter, just like "Deathsmiles" can be. It features a rich but understandable scoring system, a well balanced difficulty, and great graphics. This is a total must-have!

Bullet hell at its best
Another brilliant localization from Red Star after Deathsmiles and Dodonpachi. Akai Katana Shin is a 2D arcade side shooter developed by the legendary Japanese studio CAVE. the game features beautiful 2D HD graphics and 16/9 display (unlike the previous releases from cave for the Xbox 360); 3 distinct modes (origin, climax and slash), with different scoring systems and of course separate online rankings. The game looks really fantastic and the gameplay, complex at first, is very well balanced. Basically you have to switch between Fighter and Phantom forms to score effectively. Of course you should try a manic shooter at least once before buying this game, as this genre may be disappointing for someone expecting a next gen 3D fps but if you like arcade games with nervous gameplay and rich scoring systems, I assure you that Akai Katana Shin is probably one of the best shooter you can find for the Xbox 360.

Akai Katana
History: the story mixes traditional and modern Japan :) The War of the Empire has ravaged the world and people suffer from the domination of the empire by fear Blood Katana. We must lead a small group of rebels to fight against him. It contains so recent machines (airplanes, trains, trucks, etc ...) with characters of traditional Japan. I found a nice mix :) Gameplay: like any good shooter, we will protect our ship (here, a plane) of all patterns that coming at him. This takes place in horizontal scrolling, as DeathSmiles. In this game, three modes are available: Slash mode, the mode and manner Origin Climax (specially designed for the Xbox360). Mode is clearly slash to score, the system is identical to that of DoDonPachi Resurrection. We must raise the gauge with the green button to get in ghost mode, once filled this gauge, it accumulates energy with the R button and finally can release the power button with the X (ghost mode). Origin mode is itself a bit more tactical, because you have to constantly press A to absorb not only energy but also the points. In the previous embodiment, this step is done automatically. We should therefore direct his ship to avoid hitting the patterns but it is quite difficult because there are so many things to manage and we must have the eye everywhere! It is a little downside to this game, because it makes her look a bit messy sometimes And finally Climax mode is identical to the way Origin for the gameplay, but it allows us to show off the view because you're playing on a larger width. It can thus better appreciate the details of the decorations. Graphics: they are incredibly well detailed. You can see many vehicles on the screen and like any game of this kind, the display slows down when there are too many patterns on the screen, so that we can direct our plane in small spaces. Soundtrack: this time the music is pretty rock and stick equally well to the mood of the game Life: there are three game modes and three characters per mode. To finish the story of a character it will take about forty minutes slash mode, just over against by the other two modes because the plane is slower to run when you shoot with A. Conclusion: I am not disappointed with this purchase. I can not wait to get back to in order to score. I will focus on therefore slash mode. Also, like all other games of this genre, the Xbox360 will unlock success with a shovel. In two hours playing around, I've already unlocked 29 of 50 success for about 520 G.
