In this imaginative follow up to the classic Tecmo title ‘Devil’s Deception’, first released in 1996 on the PlayStation, players can get a taste of what it’s like to play on the side of evil. Much like its predecessors, Deception IV Blood Ties is a strategy focused action game revolving around a deceitful main character known as the Devil’s daughter who, assisted by three Daemons, defeats her foes through trickery.
Deception IV follows the story of Laegrinna, an animated fragment of an imprisoned Devil’s soul, as she battles her enemies by mischievously luring them into strategically placed traps. From rolling boulders and spiked walls to spring boards, Iron Maidens, human cannons, falling bathtubs and banana peels, the player can choose from a multitude of dramatic, sadistic, and comical traps in order to finish off an enemy.
Setting traps is not enough though, as they need to be activated in turn. Timing also plays an important role, as an untimely activation could result in Laegrinna falling into her own trap or allow her rivals to catch up her. Depending on the manner an enemy is killed or captured the Devil’s three servants: Veruza, Caelea and Lilia (each representing a different aspect of cruelty: Sadistic Torment, Elaborate Death and Humiliating Demise) reward points and upgraded traps.
Features:
- Choose between 100 elaborate, sadistic or humiliating traps to create unique killing combinations.
- Over 30 maps across 4 vastly entertaining chapters
- Upload & download trap combo replays: allow players to watch other users’ trap combo replays and share their own.
- Compete against other player’s scores online
- Cross-Save: share and replay data across PS3 and PS Vita.
- Replays can be uploaded directly
- PEGI 16
- Koei

Different and amazing
I've never played a game like it. It's simple to pick up and great fun. Amazing replay value as it's got 4 ending and 100 missions that are separate. The objective is always the same, kill the intruders but you have different objectives to complete whilst doing so each time. There are loads of traps to try out which makes it fun. I've played for 30hours and only completed it once and done 20missions.

Deep and interesting but lacking something
I love interesting little titles like this that pull them selves away from the crowds of generic and repetitive triple a games. It works more like a strategy game that anything else as you try to set up groups of traps that lead into each other to create impressive combos deal more damage and score you more points. The trap combos (combat) has the potential to be quite deep and if you're a fan of games with lots of numbers and complex(ish) calculations then this could definitely be for you. If you're not then the combat can still be good fun as there is no necessary need for you to aim for that "exact damage" bonus and the challenges set for each level can be come back to after you've earned more experience and unlocked more traps! Where the game falls short is the very bland story mode. The most important thing for any game should be that it is fun/enjoyable. For me, that mostly comes down to story and this game just dosn't grip you and make you wanna find out what happens next! It's just a flimsy excuse for more and more people to come hunting you down and then you kill. In fact I think I'm enjoying the challenge mode (not to be confused with the challenges I mentioned above, they're in the story) more than the story, it's bite size format is much more relevant to the vita but again you're blocked to most of it until you play the story mode! In short, it's an interesting idea for a game and well executed with deep gameplay but there's nothing to grip you and keep you coming back unless stats and numbers are you thing. Definitely worth playing until you get bored of it though!
