"Who Are the X-Men of Giant-Size?
Considered a starting point for the Bronze Age of Comics and notable for introducing new members to the X-Men, Giant-Size X-Men #1 was a special issue written by Len Wein and illustrated by Dave Cockrum. This iconic comic presented the second team of mutant heroes, with Professor X recruiting a new line-up to rescue the original members who had gone missing on a mission to the island of Krakoa. With Cyclops, the leader, as the sole survivor, he was joined by Colossus, Nightcrawler, Storm, Wolverine, Banshee, Thunderbird, and Sunfire. Together, they ventured to the South Pacific and fought against the living island, a mutant ecosystem that fed on other mutants' energy. Victorious, the heroes returned home, with most becoming permanent team members—many of whom remain essential to the group today.
This second, globally diverse X-Men team brought an international flair to Marvel, with members hailing from Kenya, Germany, Canada, the United States, Ireland, Japan, and Russia.
Exploring the Statue:
- In a subterranean complex built with cutting-edge engineering, mechanics, and advanced science, further enhanced by alien Shi'ar technology, a team of mutant heroes undergoes a trial by fire. Their combat skills and power control are pushed to the limit in a mechanical battlefield filled with deadly traps. United, they face one of their greatest nightmares: a giant purple robotic automaton programmed to learn and adapt to their unique powers and eliminate any mutant.
Only a simultaneous, coordinated attack can stop it. The field leader fires destructive optic blasts; his partner focuses her telekinetic powers; the giant Russian hero, with his organic steel armour, executes the iconic ""Fastball Special,"" throwing the ferocious Canadian hero with Adamantium bones and claws at the robot’s arm. Above, the Kenyan Wind Goddess hovers, unleashing high-voltage electric blasts. Beside her, a former Irish Interpol agent shatters sound barriers with his powerful scream, disintegrating part of the robot's right shoulder.
