Origins Of Rock Royalty
Formed in 1964 (in Phoenix, Arizona), Alice Cooper was an American rock band comprising lead singer Vince Furnier (known by the stage name Alice Cooper), guitarist Glen Buxton, rhythm guitarist and keyboard player Michael Bruce, bass guitarist Dennis Dunaway, and drummer Neal Smith.
The band dwindled in obscurity for many years before finding mainstream success in 1971 with the famous single ‘I’m Eighteen’ and the album Love It To Death. Following this, they continued to release multiple hit singles and albums, including School's Out (1972) and Billion Dollar Babies (1973).
Over the course of their career in the music industry, Alice Cooper broke multiple box office records — previously held by none other than the Rolling Stones — and were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2011.
The band became inactive in 1975, but Vince Furnier (who had now legally changed his name to Alice Cooper) went on to have a successful solo career as a singer/songwriter and actor, debuting with the album Welcome To My Nightmare (1975).
He is regarded by many music journalists and peers in the industry to be the ‘Godfather Of Shock Rock’, using a variety of props in his stage shows: pyrotechnics, guillotines, electric chairs, fake blood, reptiles, baby dolls, and duelling swords.
Deviating from his roots, Cooper has experimented with various styles of music, encompassing art rock, hard rock, heavy metal, new wave, industrial rock, and glam metal — introducing horror-inspired stage craft into his performances.
