Villainous Icons

Throughout the history of Disney, there have been many villainous individuals to rival our beloved heroes: Cruella de Vil, the Evil Queen, Jafar, Maleficent, the Queen Of Hearts, Scar, Gaston, Ursula, Doctor Facilier, Prince John, Captain Hook, and more.

Over many decades, Disney have created more than 100 villains. However, it is important to stress that each of these characters doesn’t necessarily fit into the archetypal role of ‘villain’, with many of those classified as such simply being antagonist towards the protagonist of their respective franchise. For example, Sour Bill from Wreck-It Ralph causes trouble for the titular character but doesn’t necessarily have evil intentions.

Some of these characters have received their own films, such as Cruella (2021) and Maleficent (2014). These films present the villains in a more sympathetic light — for the most part — often detailing their origins and motives for embracing their wicked ways.
