The World Of Japanese Animation

Anime generally refers to all animated media originating in Japan. Despite being used as an interchangeable term for animation domestically, irrespective of genre, foreign audiences have come to recognise anime as having a distinctive style.

The earliest Japanese animation was released in the early 20th century. However, anime evolved in the ‘60s thanks to the works of Osamu Tezuka, a cartoonist responsible for A Thousand And One Nights (1969), A Time Slip Of 10,000 Years (1983), Astro Boy (1963), and Adventures Of The Monkey King (1966). His works garnered a massive audience, both in Japan and globally.

Throughout the history of anime, there have been numerous popular films and TV series: Naruto, Pokémon, My Neighbour Totoro, My Hero Academia, Vampire Hunter D, Berserk, Code Geass, Hunter X Hunter, Attack On Titan, Howl’s Moving Castle, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and Baccano! — to name just a few.
