Who Is Gary Pullin?

An enjoyer of music, movies, and art, Gary Pullin (or ‘Ghoulish Gary’) is a Canadian artist who specialises in dark-themed illustrations. During his early life, he developed an interest in the visual medium through his admiration of comic books, album covers, and artwork featured on VHS boxes.

Today, his portfolio is highly regarded by fans and critics, and he has collaborated with several well-known brands, including Mondo and — of course — Zavvi.

Ghoulish Gary Clothing and Footwear

As a die-hard watcher of classic movies (such as The Monster Squad, Galaxy Quest, and The ’Burbs), Pullin was enthusiastic to start working on Zavvi’s next collection: E.T. x Gary Pullin. He first saw the film in 1982 (the year in which the science-fiction flick was released), so it’s safe to say that he’s been a fan since day one.

The concept behind the collection is centred on the movie’s ending, which sees the eponymous alien saying goodbye to his human friend, Elliott (played by actor Henry Thomas). Though the young boy’s face is hidden, the image of his red hoodie makes him instantly recognisable.

What’s interesting is that this is Pullin’s first dive into the world of shoe designing, which he is more than happy to have scratched off his bucket list. Nevertheless, his extensive career in the design industry ensured that the development process was a relatively easy one, his artistic style matching seamlessly with our signature Akedo shoes.
