What Is The Rings Of Power About?

It comes to no surprise that the Rings Of Power is set in a totally different age compared to The Lord Of The Rings film trilogy. The Rings of Power, created by Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne, focuses on the major events of the Second Age of Middle-earth. This means that the series is set between 3,000 and 6,000 years before Frodo gets a hold of the One Ring.

The Second Age begins with a cataclysmic battle between the Elves and Morgoth (Sauron’s master). Eventually, Morgoth will fall and we will see Sauron take the reins of the dark monstrosity that the Dark Lord creates in Middle-earth. The TV series shows Sauron’s rise to power, the creation of the One Ring, and the tale of Númenor (a kingdom of men) and the Last Alliance of elves and men.

When Is The Rings Of Power Set?

Tolkien broke down his history of Middle-earth into “Ages.” Each Age concludes with a great battle and defeat of evil. The TV show will dive into the depths of the Second Age, which is the first time this narrative has been depicted on screen.

Tolkien’s timeline also indicates that the Second Age features a lot of significant events: a major war between Sauron’s forces and the elves, the establishment of Sauron’s fortress at Mordor, wars between different factions of men, and even Sauron being taken captive by human forces.

The Second Age lasted for nearly 3,500 years and ended with Sauron ‘physical’ defeat. That battle was the beginning of The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001).
