ESPN s Legends of Cricket takes an in-depth look into some of the greatest cricketers from England and Australia and the fierce rivalry known as The Ashes. A satirical obituary published in a British newspaper in 1882 mourned the death of English cricket after a match in which Australia won on English soil for the first time. The obituary stated the body would be cremated and the ashes taken to Australia. A distinguished panel of 15 extremely highly regarded cricketing authorities select some of history s very best English and Australian cricketers: W.G. GRACE: Arguably the most important figure in cricket history, W. G. Grace scored 152 on debut against Australia. He was also part of his country s first home defeat two years later, the loss that marked the death of English cricket and the start of the Ashes. IAN BOTHAM: Sir Ian Terence Botham or Beefy as he is affectionately known is generally regarded as being England s greatest ever all-rounder and in the 1981 Ashes Tour Botham s Ashes was named Man of the Series, scoring 399 runs and taking 34 wickets. DONALD BRADMAN: An Australian hero, Sir Donald George Bradman, often referred to as The Don is widely acknowledged as the greatest Test batsman of all time. During the 1930 tour of England Bradman scored 974 runs with four centuries, including two double hundreds and a triple. SHANE WARNE: Shane Warne was selected as one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Century in 2000. The King of Spin showed his ferocious competitiveness against England during the 2005 Ashes series, when he took 40 wickets at an average of 19.92 and scored 249 runs. Featuring superb, action packed archive footage and in-depth interviews this really is a must see for all cricket enthusiasts.
