Eastbound and Down - Season 3
  • Description

He's arrogant, hard-partying and utterly irresistible! Kenny Powers is back for another year of hilarious mayhem as HBO presents Season 3 of the raw-and-raunchy comedy series about this burned-out former major league pitcher played by Danny McBride. Picking up one year after Season Two, Kenny brings his boorish behavior to Myrtle Beach, SC and somehow resurrects his baseball career as the closer for the minor-league Myrtle Beach Mermen. Even as he postures himself as the new King of Myrtle Beach, Kenny struggles to come to terms with growing older, both in his personal life, and professionally with the arrival of some talented up-and-comers on the team.

Down but not Out

If you've followed Kenny F***ing Powers through his descent into teaching and comeback as a pitcher through the first two series of 'Eastbound and Down', then you'll want to follow the latest chapters in that story as Kenny experiences minor league and major hassles with the Mermen of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. There are solid performances from recurring characters such as Steve Little as perennial sidekick Stevie Janowski, Don Johnson as Kenny's father, Matthew McConaughey as Texas scout Roy McDaniel, and Will Ferrell as peroxided car salesman Ashley Schaeffer. Any sense of staleness is kept at bay by a new nemesis in the shape of Ivan - a rival Russian pitcher for the Myrtle Bach Mermen - and by Kenny's attempts to cope as a single parent. Mention should also be made of Lily Tomlin, whose appearance as Kenny's mother helps raises the drama and the humour to a new level, whilst also doing a lot to explain why Kenny's like Kenny. By the end of the season Kenny seems to have genuinely grown as an individual and as a comic creation, so as to be more than merely a redneck David Brent.
