An exciting story of a man caught in a world of little people filled with giant adventures
Richard Harris stars as Jonathan Swift's immortal Lemuel Gulliver, whose irrepressibly adventurous spirit leads him to write off his career prospects as a doctor in favour of a sea voyage into the unknown – but he can't have foreseen what he'd encounter when a shipwreck leads him to be washed ashore on the island of Lilliput, whose inhabitants are many times smaller than he is, and where even one of his sneezes can trigger a terrifying typhoon. But he's also dependent on their goodwill, and they increasingly come to rely on him, especially when war is declared with the nearby Blefuscudians over matters of egg etiquette. While other adaptations have either been entirely animated or laden with special effects, this semi-musical version (with songs by Michel Legrand and Don Black) takes a leaf out of Disney's Mary Poppins and Bedknobs and Broomsticks in blending live action with charming cartoon characters.
