COLLEGE: Typical Keaton material, a fine comedy, 'College' offers a relaxing romp-in both setting and approach after the exacting precision of the comic-drama 'The General'. Those knowledgeable with silent comedy may wish to compare it with Harold Lloyd's earlier movie 'The Freshman'. Whilst considerably similar in theme, the difference rested in their comic characters. 'College' was released on 9 September 1927 with Buster's usual intention of providing his fans with a lot of fun. It's exactly what it proved to be.
STEAMBOAT BILL JR: Steamboat Bill is William Canfield, the owner of the stern-wheeler 'Stonewall Jackson'. Businessman J.J.King has now introduced his own stern-wheeler, named 'King', aiming to take all the trade and drive Steamboat Bill out of business. William Canfield Jr , has been at college in Boston but a telegram informs Steamboat Bill that the son that he has not seen since he was a baby is going to visit. Steamboat Bill Jr goes to work on the Stonewall Jackson and then discovers that a college friend of his Kitty, is the daughter of J.J.King! During an enormous cyclone which destroys much of the town with Keaton performing numerous amazing stunts, the 'King' sinks but 'Stonewall Jackson' survives and rescues Steamboat Bill, and King and his daughter from imminent disaster - all ending happily for the young couple.
