The Legend Of Aang

Produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studios, Avatar: The Last Airbender (ATLA) tells the story of Aang (voiced by Zach Tyler Eisen), the eponymous character. After being trapped in ice for a century, he is freed by two members of the Southern Water Tribe, Sokka (Jack DeSena) and Katara (Mae Whitman), the latter of whom is a waterbender, someone capable of manipulating this element through practised movements. The siblings are shocked to discover that Aang is a member of the Air Nomads, as the Fire Nation committed genocide against his kind at the beginning of the Fire Lord’s worldwide war, which was initiated after Aang’s disappearance.

The show centres on Aang’s journey to learn the three remaining elements: water, earth, and fire. To accomplish this goal, he and his companions — Sokka, Katara, the flying bison Appa (Dee Bradley Baker), and the Winged Lemur Momo (Baker) — embark to the far corners of each nation, searching for teachers of profound knowledge. Season 1 mostly takes place in the Water Nation, with the group hoping to find a waterbending master in the Northern Water Tribe. However, the final two seasons change the scenery to that of the Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation, and along the way, Team Avatar encounter many new and familiar faces, such as Toph Beifong (Jessie Flower) and Prince Zuko (Dante Basco).

After three successful seasons of ATLA, a follow-up series was created: The Legend Of Korra. This show shifted the focus to Aang’s successor, a seventeen-year-old girl hailing from the Southern Water Tribe. Although she is a natural talent, having learned three of the four elements at a young age, she has yet to master airbending, which remains a rare ability that only Aang’s descendants can perform. To rectify this, Korra travels to Republic City, where Tenzin (J. K. Simmons), Aang’s son, resides. Unfortunately, tensions are rising as an anti-bender group known as the Equalists start taking away people’s elemental control.
