Cruella Merchandise

Discover one of Disney’s most iconic villains with Zavvi UK’s wide range of Cruella merchandise. Here you will find a variety of products inspired by Cruella de Vil’s various exploits in the 101 Dalmatians franchise as well as her own prequel film.

An Iconic Villain

Created by author Dodie Smith for the 1956 novel The Hundred And One Dalmatians, Cruella de Vil was made famous in Walt Disney Productions’ animated film 101 Dalmatians (1961). The character, originally voiced by Betty Lou Gerson, is depicted as a pampered London heiress with a sadistic intrigue in the fur of dogs.

Cruella de Vil is best recognised for kidnapping 97 or 99 Dalmatian puppies, intending to skin them for their soft fur. In popular culture, she has become an infamous symbol of evil. Her very name is a non-subtle spin on ‘cruel’ and ‘devil’.

As well as animation, the character has appeared in various live-action films, such as 101 Dalmatians (1996) and 102 Dalmatians (2000), wherein de Vil was portrayed by Glenn Close.

In 2021, Cruella de Vil’s origins were explored in the prequel film Cruella. Directed by Craig Gillepsie, the film is set in the 1970s and follows the young Estella (Emma Stone), a girl determined to make it big in the world of fashion design. On her journey, she builds a life for herself on the streets of London by befriending a pair of young thieves called Jasper (Joel Fry) and Horace (Paul Walter Hauser). Eventually, Estella’s love of fashion grabs the attention of Baroness von Hellman (Emma Thompson), a legend in the fashion industry. Their relationship causes Estella to transition into the villainous character fans have come to know and despise: Cruella de Vil.
