The Secret World is an exceptionally innovative dark fantasy MMORPG by developer Funcom, who are the makers of such similar games as Anarchy Online and Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures. The ingenious storyline of The Secret World drives players to explore and uncover every myth, legend, and conspiracy theory that they have ever heard, as within this game, it's all real. The game perfectly fuses a contemporary, modern day real world setting, complete with real modern day cities, landmarks, and continents, with the ancient lore of long extinct civilisations, ancient mythology, and more. Take on the role of a supernatural hero who is to take part in a future war between good and evil, coming head to head with and fighting dark monsters and great evil.
Within The Secret World, character play goes against the grain of traditional MMORPGs as there are no defined classes, instead the player begins the game as a member of three factions, although it incorporates character customisation. The three factions, otherwise known as secret societies, are the Illuminati, the Dragon, and the Templars; each stand united in the war against the oncoming forces of evil, but stand divided in their pursuit of global power. Their secret war for power is fought with subtleties, secrets, and whispers into the ears of influential people of power. As a newly recruited member, or agent, of these societies, you have been granted access to the full potential of the power within your DNA. Now nothing will stand in your way as you can master any of the thousands of weapons available, learn any of the hundreds of powers, and rise up the ranks in any role you choose in the secret war and the battle against the oncoming darkness.
As there are no defined character classes or typical level progression within The Secret World, there are no restrictions when it comes to weaponry or powers. The progression system in place in gameplay means that you can pick and choose from the wide variety of hundreds of powers available, without being restricted by class or level. Choose anything from firearms to destructive magic and everything inbetween, never leaving yourself at a disadvantage no matter what enemy you come across, whether it be zombies or vampires. The Secret World
Having played pretty much every MMO out there The Secret World has been a bit of fresh air with enough changes to the normal formats to keep things interesting. The starting areas are chock full of different quests with amazing visuals. If the content keeps up this high level it will blow away every other title out there in my opinion.

Fairly good, although some bugs at launch
As a game, The Secret World is excellent. Amazing game design, quests are brilliant, love the combat system. However, there are a number of bugs ranging from mildly irritating to completely unplayable. The chat channels reset at random, some quests are unsolvable or require a six-hour workaround, enemy creatures can glitch into walls and floors and attack you from safety. But these are mostly typical launch bugs, and by the time you read this review, they will probably have been fixed. So, if you like the look of the game, why not pick it up and give it a whirl? I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

Amazing graphics, amazing game play! Quests are actually great fun and leave me wanting to replay them! Require a bit of thinking (or Googling using ingame browser) but they are epic, and the storyline is fantastic too! Hooked on this game! A few bugs with some quests but this will be fixed in time and other areas need improvement but this is a revolutionary MMO and Ive played a lot of MMOs. Combat is similar to GW2 but you still have the standard healer, tank and DPS get up but you can eventually get every skill in the game and build any class you want! Truly great

the EU servers are located in the US. European players suffer from a constant ping of at least 200. high ping wreaks havoc on an MMO that is hotkey based.

The Secret World (Pre-Order Exclusive)
I have been a gamer for many many years, and have played all the top MMO's but I got to tell you, The Secret World is the first ever MMO I have pre-ordered with only playing a few hours of the beta, I enjoyed it so much. The community was fantastic, the game looks wonderful graphic-wise and the quests are just awesome. You've got to use your head a lot, and I love the battle system, if you're looking to one-shot everything, this is not for you, but instead you can enjoy the fight without missing it. The music in-game is amazing, but so creepy, I would recommend The Secret World to anyone who is sick to death of the World Of Warcraft clones or the one-shot battle systems. I wouldn't say this game is slow-paced at all, it's just not a super-fast battle system. There are many sites giving away free betas, so go grab a key and give it ago. I do suggest coming back here to order the game, as the price is very decent.
