Stealth gameplay in The Last of Us might not be the best, but the story does more than make up for it. Multiplayer is also surprisingly addictive. It's one of the best games for the PS3.

The Last of Us is one of the best games I have ever played, it has amazing graphics and great story line. It pulls you in right from the very start and is able to keep you hooked until the end. Highly recommend.

A must buy!

This game is one of the best I have played in years, graphically excellent, a great story and one of the longest single player games that I can think of. No matter what price this is a must

SUPERB!!

Loved this game, the clickers are really scary and the game itself is pretty tricky. Without spoiling the game to much, beware of the Labia, its fishy stench requires you to find a gas mask and I got stuck on it for ages before realising that. Your best to stick it up the clacker next to it and avoid the fishy stench-trench altogether. Good luck and happy hunting!

The Last of Us

The Last Of Us is, quite possibly, the PS3's swan song. On the eve of the next generation of video gaming Naughty Dog have produced a console exclusive whose merits far outweigh its few niggles. In 20 years a large proportion of the population will be infected by a fungal virus that turns its hosts into, for want of a more accurate word, zombies. The basic premise follows Joel, a middle aged Texan whose backstory is played out in an emotional prologue, as he escorts a young and fiery teenager, Ellie, from one quarantined settlement to another in the belief that she may be the key to saving humanity from the brink of extinction. Following the brilliance of the Uncharted trilogy was never going to be a sure thing. If anything the bar had been set so high it would not have been a surprise for the game to fall short of such standards. It does not. However, it is important to note that this is not Drake's fourth adventure. This is a considered and stealth orientated horror survival game that relies on patience and restraint and it is all the more rewarding for it. When firearms are available ammo is in short, precious supply. More often than not homemade shanks and customised lead pipes and baseball bats are the staple line of defence between life and a grisly demise. Forever teetering on the balance of existence nurtures a genuine sense of fear. One little bite is all it takes for game over. The visuals are stunning. The landscape is an overgrown suburban metropolis whose green and brown pallet never fails to impress. There are moments where just to stand and soak up the environment can be just as exciting as sneaking past fungified humans. Sunlight literally dapples foliage and, in one moment, a bird in flight sends ripples across a puddle. Much has been made of the comparisons between the lead characters, Joel and Ellie, and how, despite playing as Joel, it is a story that ultimately belongs to Ellie. The precocious teenager is undoubtedly the character with whom our sympathies and affections lie most but Joel is similarly well written, if not as well presented or developed, and will soon earn your attention in equal measure. Even the supporting cast (eyes and ears out for a Nolan North cameo) each bring a peppering of quality to the table. As a narrative, The Last of Us does not necessarily subvert genre conventions or bring any great abundance of fresh ideas to the table so much as it does utilise them with aplomb and verve, to the extent that this is a masterclass. There are handfuls of spine-tingly moments and small set pieces at which to marvel. One particularly standout moment from an early part of the game involves defending Ellie whilst hanging upside down several feet above a grimy warehouse floor. There are a few moments where frustrations might build, not so much due to glaring faults or game-breaking bugs but because in such a fantastically realised world it seems almost ignorant to have allowed them to happen. Sneaking through a murky, Clicker infested shopping centre whilst Tess and Ellie clamber about, sometimes bumping into the creatures without any altercation, and calling out to each other does disrupt the emersion. Nonetheless, this is a game where the small details really add a spice to a world of wonderful large details and for once perhaps the hype really is deserved. There is a replay value here that extends far beyond the usual bash-bash-bash of Call of Duty or run-run-run of Resident Evil. There won’t be a sequel but when the experience is as wholesome as this a follow-up would just be a cheap cash-in and Naughty Dog have too much style for that.

Excellent and gripping title

Another excellent game by Naughty Dog, an excellently paced story with very good gameplay and stealth mechanic. Obviously there are some bugs, for example the enemy will never see your companions when you are sneaking even if they are right in front of them, less of a bug more so you don't keep getting spotted because your partner is standing in the middle of the room while you hide behind the box. Another unexpected feature that I only learnt about after purchase, is the multiplayer mode, it is very fun, not much to it in terms of unlocks and stuff but still fun. I would recommend this game to anyone, it's gripping, the characters are likable and the multiplayer is surprisingly addictive. Definitely a 10/10 game!

Perfect - Coming from one who doesn't believe in perfection

What can I say? This game is one of a kind. I don't play a large variety of these sorts of games (Infestations or zombies or the such.) I wasn't particularly interested in the big feature of Call of Duty and their whole 'Nazi Zombie' deal. But this game caught me for the story. To be perfectly honest, I hadn't done much research into this game. And usually, I do. I had watched the initial trailer, and that was pretty much it. I was caught on. I got my copy and played along, and everything I expected didn't happen, and everything I didn't expect happened. It lines up for a lot of classic clichés, but doesn't necessarily follow through with them. It takes lots of turns at the last moment, and can't help but think "Christ, what next?" And to top it all off, this game has something that I don't think I've ever seen in my years of gaming. A 'perfect' ending. And I really mean perfect. It left me... Curious. Seeking an answer that I already knew. Absolutely satisfied. I feel that this game doesn't need a sequel, because everything that needed to be said, has been said. Lots of people might disagree with me on the ending, but I feel that if it had anything different, anything else, this game could not and would not be as fantastic as it was from start to finish. The scariest thing about this game is probably the realism of it. From the voice acting and the tears, to the fear of the situation, considering the gameplay makes things difficult when ammo is limited to say the least. In that aspect, it's probably better to take your time and sneak around. You're not facing just infected. You're facing other people in a war-driven world where it's survival of the fittest at this point. When I say ammo is limited, I mean it's limited. You don't have big machine guns to run in guns-a-blazing. You don't have a rocket launcher to take out large enemies. The best weapon you can rely on is probably a handgun for long-range shots, and you'll need to make those headshots count. Otherwise, it's easier to sneak attack from close range. The story is absolutely brilliant, and that alone is worth the buy. I can't speak for the multiplayer as I have yet to try it, but from the reviews I've checked, it's quite a lot of fun. This is a highly recommended game, and is definitely on my all-time favourites. Right up there with Ni no Kuni.

Best Game Ever Confirmed

5

I was so excited about The Last of Us as soon as I saw the first trailer for it a year ago. This is the best game ever! It could possibly be a PS4 game looking at it sometimes, any Walking Dead fans out there, this is the equivalent of that same experience, it's just fantastic.

Excellent Game!

The Last of Us is probably one of the best games ever made! The story is immersive and is just like playing a film. The game is challenging at times but never puts you off from wanting to play this through to the end. Roll on the DLC!
