Nanomachines, son!

A crazy ride true to kojima's universe but with platinum's amazing twist. This game was fun from the get go, having you fight something that in previous metal gear games would be a final boss! The story felt like something out of an anime with you at the heart of the action. Combat is satisfying, even mashing you can get cool combos and decimate your enemies without breaking a sweat. On some of the harder difficulties however, you would be best to know your combos and explore all your options, as alerting enemies might get you killed in a split second. I felt the game could have been a little longer, and a certain level was just a previous one played in reverse, but the re-playability and unlocks make up for the short story. The satisfaction of getting S rank on every instance of a level feels very rewarding, although lack of leaderboards means i cant rub it in my friends faces. The VR missions are a nice addition as well, some being very challenging as you are stripped of all upgrades and limited to a few health packs to complete them. I'm not one to give games a rating out of 10 or 100 or whatever, but this game was definitely worth my money. If you are a hack and slash fan looking to get the sour taste of the DMC reboot out of your mouth, this is the perfect breath mint to keep you going until bayonetta 2! (oh, and the raiden figure is amazing quality, as expected of play arts.)

I have been waiting for this for a long time and it was really worth the wait. I have been a fan of the MGS franchise since I was in school, and this new installment is awesome with a great storyline and graphics. The limited edition figure of Raiden that comes with it is highly detailed and is a must have if you a big of the series. Not to mention the Cyborg Ninja Armor from the first MGS game is a treat because everyone wanted to play as the ninja in the first game.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

Metal Gear Rising is one of the finest games I have played in a long time. A truely challenging experience that will keep you wanting more. Heavy rock riffs play as you slice through each level and crank up for bos battles! Good replay value and well worth the cash! Do it, become a Lightning God!

Fans of the Hack 'n' slash genre rejoice! After the weak offerings of Ninja Gaiden 3 last year,& the re-boot of Devil May Cry this year, we finally have a quality game to sink our teeth into. Platinum have hit the magic formula again, with a refreshing & enjoyable set of game mechanics (something that is sadly too lacking in today's mainstream games releases). Zandatsu is highly enjoyable to weave into the to-ing & fro-ing of the combos, but it is the novel parrying system that brings the combat alive. In all honesty I hadn't really got to grips with these new techniques until the final chapter (I'm getting old you know!), but a game built around quality mechanics is all about the replay-ability, & this doesn't disappoint (on a side note & a negative; the campaign is remarkably short so if you want a lengthy yarn perhaps this isn't for you). The story matches the insane combat & boss battles for sheer over-the-top shenanigans - incredible banter! Some die-hard MGS fans maybe disappointed with Platinum's take on some of the series' canon, but this is incidental & secondary IMO). This has re-invigorated my love of GENUINE games & reminded me of how good Japanese games can be when they get it right.

After playing the demo numerous times. I really enjoy Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, even more so how smooth the controls felt. The Free Blade Mode does take some getting used to, but afterwards, it'll come to you naturally. The parrying concept is quite interesting, in my opinion, unlike most games where you can simply hold down the block/guard button, MGR requires you to push the left analog forward with X at the same time in the direction of the incoming attack to successfully parry. Much like the Free Blade Mode; it gives you the option to either slash in any direction you want with the right analog or vertically/horizontally using X/Y, so you feel that you are in control of your slashes. Visually, the game is quite impressive, from the armour detail on Raiden to being able to cut down almost everything to the insides of your enemies. Platinum Games have done a good job of picking this up when Konami couldn't work with it. People need to accept that fact that this is not a Metal Gear Solid game, so it shouldn't play like an MGS game. If people can accept a Devil May Cry reboot, then they should be able to accept MGR, but this isn't a reboot, just a spin-off. This is the game I am looking forward to the most this year.

So bitterly dissappointed

I couldn't help but be bitterly disappointed by Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance . It has a hell of a lot of talking. I never used to mind this, but in a game that promises 'Lightning Bolt Action', you find yourself drawn to the skip button after listening to waffle for 10 minutes. This is only made worse by one dimensional support characters with terrible voice actors. The controls are clunky, awkward, and downright terrible. All attacks feel good on natural buttons, but addition skills like parrying, are the most awkward combination of buttons ever. Free slicing is decent, but using the camera stick to control where you are going to attack feels wrong. The support item selection system grinds the game to a complete halt, which seems like an odd choice considering the speed the game is meant to run at. Combat is fun, but really suffers from the awkward controls. I was massively disappointed to see that the quick time event kills are very limited. The graphics are a definite, massive step backwards, and the environments are. Destroying objects is massively fun, but the game restricts you very much on what you can actually cut, which is a shame. It's such a massive shame.
