Co-op awesomeness!

4

If you ever wanted fist person zombie RPG, this is pretty much your lucky day! It can be described kind of like Fallout 3 light but with zombies. The tropical island setting is a nice change for the zombie-genre. You also get to craft weapons to take on the hordes of undead. This also happenes to be one of the best co-op experiences of the year! If you have a buddy or three, buy this now!

Bloody Fun

S T O R Y The island of Banoi is the hotspot where flesh-eating freaks are just dying to meet you! You play as one of four main characters, each of them possessing a variety of skills and knowing ways to dismember zombies. The island becomes overrun with a contagious infection and it becomes a race against time to escape your designated hotel. Classic Zombie-movie story and for sure the weak spot of this game. But still well presented and nice to play. G R A P H I C S & S O U N D The island of Banoi is awesome. Golden beaches glisten in the sun, palm trees elegantly sway back and forth, and crystal clear water ripples gracefully. The vibrancy of the island really pulls it out and showcases very slick art direction. The island is absolutely huge in size and very meticulously crafted. Dead Island is dripping in atmosphere; it wants to show you something new, wherever you decide to go. There's an eeriness about the island though, despite its sunny outlook and glitzy recreational areas. The soundtrack is foreboding and dark, perfectly blending into moments of calm, or when the going gets tough. Voice acting is commendable, some of the accents are forced and don't feel natural, but this doesn't tarnish the overall application of it. Sound design is strong; beating the undead freaks is sure to provide plenty of audio feedback. G A M E P L A Y Dead Island's goes beyond brainless zombie massacring. The RPG element gives each playable character substance and a sense of empowerment. The experience is structured via story missions and side quests. The story keeps you moving across the island and interacting with the local citizens. Side quests focus on helping smaller pockets of island residents and completing minor tasks for them. Missions can be a mixed bag, some require you to find supplies, others may need you to escort people, and tougher assignments may have you battling against countless enemies. Getting from mission to mission is easiest when in a vehicle, and it's satisfying to get all GTA happy when running down zombies. Wherever you go, the zombies are never far behind and remain a constant thorn in your side. A levelling system is in place to allocate points to certain skills. There are skill trees, which can boost your survival, combat and fury (rage power) properties. The more you level up then the more formidable you will become against tougher enemies. Weapons, weapons and more weapons! The list is endless when it comes to slaying a zombie. Many weapons can be found when roaming environments, but their condition doesn't always make them suitable for prolonged combat. As the game progresses you can acquire stronger weapons, which are a real delight to wield. The fun doesn't just end there; weapons can be upgraded and modified with accessories. Why have an ordinary baseball bat, when you can have a baseball bat covered in nails, or even supported with an shock mod to electrify enemies? The combat is highly addictive, but it is wise to not bite off more than you can chew (that doesn't apply to a zombie). Hacking and slashing repeatedly will drain stamina and render you ineffective for a little while. Aiming for the head is the key, but if you face tougher enemies then keeping your distance is a wise strategy. Repairing weapons is very handy, which keeps them fresh and extends their usage. Firearms are also available, but this takes away from the visceral combat and aren't very fun to use. Some missions can take a very linear approach in order to introduce diverse environments, which can restrict freedom and confine navigation. Side quests can become recycled affairs when travelling to new areas, O V E R A L L Dead Island is a surprise package and bursting with a meaty campaign. There's a good 20-30 hours of zombie madness to get stuck into. The story is generic, but it does enough to bind the survivors together. The island is gorgeous and screams an evocative atmosphere. The game-play is outright fun and the melee combat is a visceral experience. Banoi island may not have the tourists swarming in, but the walking dead provide you with plenty of `entertainment'.

A great holiday to Dead Island

I was somewhat sceptical of Dead Island because of its mixed reviews. But I finally bought it and I am very positively surprised. The setting is absolutely great, and the gameplay is deeper than you may imagine. This is a true RPG, be it action-oriented. The area is vast, the game will take dozens of hours to complete, and I am still very excited about the game after a lot of hours into it. So, does the GotY edition have the added value? Well, it is already very cheap so there's not a very good reason to not go for it. I did not play the two DLC's yet but I'm inclined to say yes already on the basis of the absolutely great ripper weapon. Both DLC's do not seem to be the strongest elements of the game, but the completionists are recommended to go for this version anyway. Overall, it's an amazing game, and great fun to play.

my new holiday island

This game has made my year! I'm really glad I bought this game a few weeks ago...I now have a beautiful island where I can have some time off from work. Driving a car without watching the speed limit, drinking too much alcohol, sporting events like smashing zombie heads... It's a fun zombie apocalyptic game...more fun than resident evil 5! Warning: not suitable for children or people who would rather not see heads exploding or spaying blood.
