The Otherside

Founded in 1983, the Red Hot Chili Peppers are one of the most popular American rock bands in the history of music. Anthony Kiedis (vocalist), Flea (bassist), Hillel Slovak (guitarist), and Jack Irons (drummer) formed the band in Los Angeles — incorporating aspects of alternative rock, punk rock, funk, and psychedelic rock. However, both Slovak and Irons played no part in the band’s first album, with Jack Sherman (guitarist) and Cliff Martinez (drummer) filling in.

Slovak would return for the band’s second album, Freaky Styley (1985). Likewise, Irons featured in their third album, The Uplift Mofo Party Plan (1987). Sadly, he left after the tragic passing of Slovak in 1988.

Chad Smith (drummer) and John Frusciante (guitarist) joined the band for the recording of Mother’s Milk (1989) and Blood Sugar Sex Magik (1991). After Frusciante left, feeling uncomfortable about their sudden popularity, Dave Narrow filled in for One Hot Minute (1995). Frusciante would later re-join for their seventh and most commercially successful album, Californication (1999). This was followed up with By The Way (2002) and Stadium Arcadium (2006).

In 2009, Frusciante would once again leave to focus on his solo career. Josh Klinghoffer took his place as guitarist, contributing to I’m With You (2011) and The Getaway (2016). Despite his leaving, Frusciante re-joined the band in 2019.

Over the course of their multi-decade history, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have sold more than 80 million records worldwide and achieved multiple Grammy Awards. Their contribution to music was recognised in 2012 when they were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
