Hannibal Lecter Trilogy
5The Hannibal Lecter Trilogy is great. Whilst Red Dragon doesn't quite capture the emotional intensity of Manhunter before it, the production value and spot on acting make it an acceptable successor. Silence of the Lambs, however, is worth the price of the box set all by itself. A procedural thriller, psychological horror and drama all in one, this film benefits massively form the work put into it. Jodie Foster trained with the FBI beforehand, others went through the behavioural science training (causing some serious nightmares) and all was backed up with consultation with the real deal. It's a thought-provoking and tense masterpiece that loses nothing with age. Added to this there are hours and hours of extras, explaining how it came about and even a very honest look at the backlash experienced when the film came out from the gay and transgender communities. Hannibal is certainly not a classic but it is an enjoyable, slightly camp experience.

Hannibal Trilogy
4The Hannibal Lecter Trilogy would have got five stars if it included the latest movie too. It's still great value for the three Blu-rays though. The 1990 Silence of the Lambs picture quality isn't quite up to the later movies, but the DTS soundtrack delights. It's worth getting.
