The True Hero Of Star Wars

The classic blue-and-white droid R2-D2 (pronounced ‘Artoo-Detoo’) finds his routes in director George Lucas’ original Star Wars trilogy, making his cinematic debut in Star Wars IV: A New Hope (1977).

Alongside his fellow golden protocol droid C3PO, it fell to R2-D2 to transport the secretive Death Star plans, provided by Princess Leia Organa, to the Rebel Alliance forces.

However, while marooned on the planet of Tatooine, the pair of droids were kidnapped by the native Jawas, a known scavenger species. This led them to be purchased by the young moisture farmer Luke Skywalker, who would go on to become one of the greatest Jedi Knights in the Star Wars universe.

R2-D2 would also appear in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, which explored how he came to be involved with the Skywalker legacy – serving under Anakin Skywalker.
