The Last Story

The last story grabs you the moment you start, I literally could not put it down. You know a game is ace when you start it when your home from work (6:30PM) and do not get off until 3AM... The combat is fast paced but has tactical elements and you can customize, level up and really develop your team. Alongside that, the story is epic and one that you will never forget. The only short falls are that the lip synching is not perfect and obviously the graphics are not 100%, but this really did not effect my experience, as the other ingredients overpower this. What an amazing title.

The Last Story is one of the wii's most under-rated gems, a fantastic JRPG which excels in story-telling, audio work, and gampelay terms. For those unaware of its pedigree it was developed at Mistwalker studios under the oversight of director Hiornobu Sakaguchi, the founding father of Final Fantasy. As such, it hasn't delved too far from what he is familiar with, and the game is very reminiscent of PSX era Final Fntasy titles. The story follows a band of mercenaries who become embroilled in a political war and while the main characters present are typical stereotypes, their voice acting helps them rise above their characterisation, and you genuinely care about them. In particular, some of the jovial banter during battle really brings the game to life. The battle system is in real time and features cover mechanics as well as stealth attributes. There is a certain amount of strategy present and it is quite original and defnitely worth experiencing, although arguably it is a little too easy. he graphics are nothing particularly special but this is more down to the processing power the Wii is capable of, as the general art direction is very good. In summary I would recommend this to anyone who is a fan of typical JRPGs and who want to see how the old days could have turned out if the genre hadn't all but disappeared.

This is the best RPG on Wii. Fantastic presentation, interesting story, epic sound scape, nice graphic for Wii, and a new awesome gameplay for the RPG era.

The Last Story is definitely one of the most beautiful games available on the Nintendo Wii. The characters are cool, well, most of them... but the music is really something. I think it may be one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard on a game. I highly recommend it.

After the success of the awesome game, Xenoblade, another great Japanese RPG has been released for the Wii, entitled The Last Story. This is a much more story-driven experience with a very good direction, which gives us a good sense of liberty, while keeping the very good rhythm chosen by the developers. This results in a very classic, but yet engaging story, which always make us wonder "what will happen next?", with players ending up in the usual "I'll just play 10 minutes more" way to play, which characterizes good games. The characters are as classic as the story, as they're quite interesting and very well represented. One element is found especially funny was their chatting and conversation during the missions and the night at the tavern. This makes all the characters feel very connected. On the battlefield, we have quite a deep real-time combat system, which requires a bit of tactical play, to overcome the many challenges the group come across during the game, and between missions, players have the chance to visit the city of Lazulis to find merchants, artisans, the arena, and many other places and little hidden secrets. All of the video sequences in the game are done with very high-quality graphics, but the smoothness of the whole game has a few flaws here and there. It's nothing to really complain about though. Overall, The Last Story is a very good title. It's not a masterpiece, but it's definitely worth playing if you have a Nintendo Wii, especially fans of Japanese RPG games.

The Last Story is a great RPG game, with a unique battle system and great graphics, but the only thing that I didn't like was many, many cut-scenes. I'm not really a Final Fantasy fan, down to the fact their games have hundreds of cut-scenes. To those that they like watching these videos on the other hand, I believe that this is your game. It is highly recommended. GameCube had only Baten Kaitos as a mature RPG, but the Wii has stepped up it's game, have the choice of Xenoblade and The Last Story. It deserves to be in your collection.

Last Order: Not quite like anything you've ever seen before.

I'll make this short. The game is fraught with problems, bad frame-rate, hideous camera, and the optimization is so bad I almost sent my Wii to the repair shop before I realized I didn't have any problems with my other games. However, the game is nothing like I've ever played before. It's a hybrid between several genres: Action RPG, FPS, and the classic JRPG style. The battle controls are very simple, you only need to use three buttons, with barely any menus to sort through, but there is still lots of different attacks cleverly mapped to the few buttons, and a fair amount of strategy is needed to finish the more difficult battles. The music is fine, the characters aren't very interesting but at least avoid getting annoying, and there's a pretty fun Co-Op mode included, something you rarely see in a JRPG, to say the least! It's very unique and involving, despite its problems, and if you're looking for a new Wii JRPG after playing Xenoblade you can't go wrong with this one.

Wonderful RPG for the Wii. I really like the fighting style. This game gives you more control of the battles than other RPGs I have played such as Xenoblade Chronicles. Zavvi got me the game fast and shipping was very cheap considering I live in the states. Overall great game and great service by Zavvi.

Another awesome Wii-RPG!

Ok it's not your typical turn based RPG (which I am craving...probably like most fans) but it's the best we're going to get for a long time. This generation has been very low on the turn based RPGs, I am talking about when they used to be awesome around the playstation 1 era such as Final Fantasy 7, 8 and 9. There are a load more great ones, but those three were something else! Now, we have silly western RPGs like skyrim, dragon age, mass effect. Don't get me wrong I do not hate these games but they are not true RPGs in my opinion. They are great but they don't tick all the boxes for me. When it comes to RPGs I like a certain feel to the game and The Last Story even though it doesn't have the turn based battle system it still ticks all the boxes in other areas. I spent over 1 hour just running around the first city last night doing side quests, exploring, buying equipment and fighting in the ARENA!! I was very shocked to think you could enter an arena so early on, usually you unlock things like that a lot later in the game. I have only being on the game for around 3 hours so far and every RPG fan knows that is not long for an RPG! So far I am loving it, at first I was a bit like "whoa what is going on, this combat is weird, how do you actually do it, wait, they are dead, did I do that?!". You do eventually get used to it, if you ever played The Last Remnant, it's a bit like that effect as in when I first entered a battle on that I was also like "what just happened?!" lol but you get used to it and I have to say once you get used to it...it's absolutely awesome and addictive! I found a point where you can actually summon extra enemies for more exp and I could not resist, I kept summoning them and fighting. Levelled up quite a bit there and I then knew the combat a lot better due to how many fights I had and how fast you could summon them. Seriously, when you get used to the controls and battle it's one of the best battle systems. It's so fun I can't wait to go back on it. Which I plan to do very soon. I haven't even got much of the story yet, another reason I need to play it more and I can't wait to as it feels like it's going to be a good story. If this game shapes up to be anything like Xenoblade Chronicles was then it's going to be epic!
