Castlevania L.O.S.

I had played the demo on playstation store previous to buying this so I already knew I would enjoy it. Having played and finished other great platformers such as Dante's Inferno and Darksiders this had a lot to live up to. It certainly did! The game is a little slow to start but the story is very deep and twists and turns at every level. Abilities are earned as you progress with xp. Magic abilities are also unlocked gradually. If you like working for trophies there are plenty to get but after the first couple you wont earn any for a few levels. The game offers easy, medium and hard mode unlocking extra hard is unlocked once hard is completed. Playstation network offers 2 downloadable packs which extend the original story. The first involves uniting with a another character and working through 3 levels. This is £6.99 and the second pack is the final 2 levels and boss of all boss battles with the conclusion of the story. This is priced at £7.99. The game is excellent without the extra packs. The fighting style and ability to overpower and 'ride' various creatures is brilliant. The graphics are stunning, levels are very well designed and thought out. In game puzzles are challenging yet achievable with some thought and logic. This will provide hours of enjoyment, it makes you want to succeed and is a joy to play. Sometimes when you die, having to watch cut scenes with each restart can be irritating, each enemy needs good tactics to defeat. The ending is very surprising, not what you expect as the story evolves. Brilliant boss battles throughout. Five stars from me.

Reinvention of Castlevania

Castlevania as most gamers recall is a side scrolling platformer. This has been revolutionised when Konami produced Castlevania Legacy of Darkness for N64. In the first release of Castlevania in the current-gen console, one might expect some uniqueness in this title. However this is not to be. Throughout the game, players will find elements of other games of similar hack and slash genre (think Devil May Cry, God of War or Bayonetta). Though derivative in nature, this is not unwelcome by most players. With beautifully rendered backgrounds and characters, coupled with a fairly good story and cast, this game is able to earn its place in the Castlevania franchise. If you are someone who plays video games for its rich story and great voice acting, this is not a title to miss.

A new kind of Castlevania

We all know how is castlevania games gameplay right? this game in particular takes a new path, you won't be exploring dracula's castle or a town near it, instead this game takes you to several different areas divided in chapters, that you'll have to complete in order to defeat the lords of shadow who torment this land. If you'r a castlevania fan or you like plataform, hack n' slash games you shouldn't miss the opportunity to play this game. --The good-- Excelent plataform and combat gameplay. You can improve and get new attacks as well as other abilities. Detailed and interactive scenaries. Complex story. Variety of puzzles. Wide variety of enemies and boss battles. DLC avalible. --The bad-- Low replay value. The game have a fixed camera. No RPG elements.

More than just satisfying ...

The graphics - plain and simple are amazing ... characters, items, weapons, but it's the same combat as in God of War, you know what I mean ... button SMASHING. There is a lot of Prince of Persia style traversal that happens in the game as well, but sometimes the fixed camera, could be a little anoying. I would highly recommend this game to anyone, fan or not.

Lord Of Adventure Games

With this game now finished, I can say that without a doubt, this is an easy game of the year contender. In an age where single player games are being whittled down to a four hour run about, that this was an easy 20 hours of pure epic. Sure it slows down a bit for the final level or two, but I never felt as I was having to grind my way forward. It was tough, and indeed some of the bosses could have gone down quicker, but it always played a fair hand. The combat is regularly enhanced with fresh combos and enemy types, and the puzzles were a good blend of the traditional and the modern. Likewise, the environments never stuck around for long. There was a real sense of progression throughout the game and they've clearly taken a look at how Santa Monica Studio made God of War look as breathtaking as it did. The titan boss fights were excellent too, and whilst they're never on the same scale as the aforementioned GoW3, they're certainly bigger and more entertaining than most modern bosses. All in all, whilst the opening and final levels missed a beat or two, and the difficulty ramps up a little too quickly (before you get the combos needed to make a good fight of it) this is easily one of the most finely crafted adventure games of it's generation, never leaving the player without a new task ahead of them, or a new environment to do it in. Wrap all that up in a suitably fantastical story and give it production values to rival the biggest names in the business, and you've got a game that anyone with a taste for adventure should stump up for.

Not the Castlevania that we know

4

This is a great game, awesome graphics but it's not the Castlevania as we know it, the story of the old Castlevania games is killing Dracula, but in Lords of Shadow has nothing to do with that, In Castlevania Lords of shadow the story is to destroy the Lords of Shadow. This game is great, it's almost good as God of War, but the story suffered a drastic change.

Awesome action game

Fans of the God of War series will enjoy this game thanks to the familiar controls and huge resemblance in gameplay. Sure, it might lack the jaw-dropping visual impact God of War 3 is reowned for, but it is still easily one of the best-looking multiplatform games around. Mercury Steam really did a fantastic job here. The environments are beautiful, artworks are lovingly crafted, even the UI seems to be designed with care. I had a great time with this game and if i have to list down some criticisms it would be the below-average framerate (the PS3 version has better framerates) and a slight lack of originality.
