The best action RPG to come out of Japan in years.
5The game's good sides include a good oldschool challenge (that almost always isn't unfair), good graphics and excellent game mechanics. The visuals and game mechanics have a very Western fantasy feel to them, and that is certainly a plus. No pretty-boy teenage heroes here. My nitpicks include some dodgy physics and the world- and character tendency game mechanics which don't work too well in my opinion. The game is also somewhat short (six worlds only), but luckily the game does have much replay value. An overall great game. A must buy for any gamer who craves a challenging but rewarding game.

4I just got it a few days ago, and its a wonderful experience, the combat mechanics are great, the atmosphere is really well rendered and the challenge is there for the better et the worst, making up strategies, crafting your equipment, everything is made to definitely take you into this world.

Hard but satisfying
5Demon's Souls is very different from what you'd usually expect from a Japanese RPG game. No turnbased battles, no teenagers saving the world, gone are random battles and most of all; it's actually hard. This is a welcome change. You'll have a lot of fun mastering the realtime combat. And the incredible atmosphere will suck you in. This game is a must-buy!

4GOOD: Excellent level design, Great atmosphere, Amazing boss battles, Good audio. BAD: Frustratingly Hard, Outdated graphics, Not alot of levels. Demon's souls should be GOTY ? Does it deserve to be GOTY? Yes absolutly but the game isn't perfect. Overall the graphic for the game is nice, it is dark, creepy, and some level gives you depressing feeling that you feel like you are playing a horror game. The ambient sounds are perfect, it adds up the overall creepy old scary tones of this game. As for the game play, first start off, this is supposed to be a RPG, but however, you will notice a lot of difference from other RPG. it allows you customize your own character. You get to choose form a few classes. As what the game suggested the starting states only affects how your character starting play, as the game progress you will be able to use all sorts of weapons and spells, provide that if you meet the necessary requirement. The control is responsive and good, you can attack and defense easily, and the movements are well balanced .You can't jump but you can run and roll. R1 and R2 for your right hand equipment and L1 L2 for your left hand respectively. This game is hard. The enemies are tough; you will meet up with monsters that are able to kill you with 1-2 hits, and your hp and mp will not auto-regenerate. If you die in your body form, you will transfer into soul form, which limits only 50% of your max hp. In body form you have 100% of your health, but you are more likely to attract attacks form the enemy. There are many weapons to choose from and some are good against certain enemy while some aren't. Theonline mode: you will see messages left by other players; some are great hints while some are lies and traps. You can see some white phantoms in the game, that's other players that in the same world as you. If you are good, you can invade other's world as a black phantom, and you can also place yourself as a blue phantom that others can summon you and help to fight the game. Corporative plays is very fun and there are some superb players out there. Demon's souls is a game I highly recommend, though, it can be really frustrating for some players not used to this leve of difficulty.
